Dr. Jenny Hughes​
​
Her major research interests include heterosexual, lesbian, and gay couples and their work and relationship satisfaction (she often focuses on dual-income couples); the physical and psychological effects of commuting to and from work; and positive psychology including the concepts of gratitude and flow in relationships and work.
Besides publishing her research on her own, she has co-authored research papers with 270 students. That work has resulted in 51 published journal articles, 194 presentations at national and regional conventions, and 187 presentations at Agnes Scott’s research conference.
A recently published article that has received a lot of international attention is: Guidance for researchers when using inclusive demographic questions for surveys: Improved and updated questions.
In addition, she has received several awards such as the Vulcan Materials Company Teaching Excellence Award at Agnes Scott in 2013, the Florence L. Denmark Faculty Advisor Award from Psi Chi in 2018, and the Mentor Award from the Southeastern Psychological Association in 2014. She also has served as the advisor for Agnes Scott’s Psi Chi chapter for the past 3 decades and has been an Associate Editor of the Psi Chi Journal of Psychological Research for the past decade. Finally, she was elected as the President of the Southeastern Psychological Association 2015-2016.
Courses generally taught include introductory psychology, industrial/organizational psychology, psychology of sexual behavior, and applied professional skills in psychology.
